ABLE accounts for people with disabilities
One of the great things about being your State Representative is having the ability to serve as a convener – bringing people together to share their stories and come up with new ideas.
Last month, my office hosted an roundtable on intellectual and developmental disabilities with families, caregivers and educators throughout DuPage County. We also invited representatives from the Illinois Treasurer’s office to talk about Illinois ABLE (Achieving a Better Life Experience) accounts for people with disabilities.
With ABLE, eligible people with disabilities and their families can save and invest in tax-advantaged accounts to help pay for disability-related expenses, such as transportation, housing, education, and employment training,
With an IL ABLE account, you can build savings of up to $100,000 without jeopardizing eligibility for SSI or Medicaid. Since its launch in 2017, nearly 7,200 Illinoisans with disabilities have contributed more than $100 million to their IL ABLE accounts. The average balance in an IL ABLE account is more than $12,000.
If you know someone who could benefit from an Illinois ABLE account, you can click hereto find more information. If you have questions, you also can call the IL ABLE Customer Service at 888-609-8683, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
