Digging into the state budget
Now that Governor Pritzker has proposed his budget for the coming year, the General Assembly has the responsibility to work with the Governor to make sure our state’s spending plan supports our top priorities.
As we dig into this 634-page budget, I’m going to focus on making sure we’re giving adequate funding to public education, mental health services, and public safety, while also looking for ways to ease the burden on hard-working taxpayers.
In my role as the new chair of the New Democrats caucus, I’m looking forward to working alongside my colleagues to advocate for fiscal responsibility and restraint. Together, I know we can build consensus around a budget that works for all the people who are living, working, and raising their families here in Illinois.
