Remembering the fallen
As we prepare for the coming holiday weekend, let’s not forget that Memorial Day was established to honor the brave men and women who have given their lives to defend our country.
I hope you’ll find time on Monday, May 27, to join in one of the Memorial Day events being held in our district:
- Lombard Memorial Day Ceremony, from 10 to 11 a.m. at Lombard Common Park, 433 E. St. Charles Road
- Glen Ellyn Memorial Ceremony, at 11 a.m. at Lake Ellyn Park, 645 Lenox Road
- Lisle Memorial Day Parade and Remembrance Ceremony, the parade steps off at 10 a.m. Lisle Junior High School, 5207 Center Ave., ending with a ceremony at the Lisle Veterans Memorial, 921 School St. A second ceremony will follow at the Lisle Cemetery, 979 Ogden Ave.
- Naperville Memorial Day Parade, at 10:30 a.m. in Downtown Naperville, starting at Centennial Beach, 500 W. Jackson Ave.
- Wheaton Memorial Day Parade, at 10 a.m. beginning at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave., proceeding west on Wesley Street, turning south on West Street, and ending at the Wheaton Cemetery, 1209 S. Warrenville Road
- Downers Grove Memorial Day Parade, kicking off at 10:45 a.m. at Burlington Avenue and Main Street. The parade will travel south on Main to Grove Street, ending at Fishel Park, 1036 Grove St. A Memorial Day Ceremony will begin in the park at 11:00 a.m.
