Good food does more than nourish our bodies. Flavorful food can restore our souls, connecting us with cherished memories and reminding us of our family heritage.

Most of you probably don’t know it, but I worked for Addison Park District when I was a teenager, as a lifeguard at the district pool. I have to tell you – just about everything I ever needed to know as a state legislator, I learned as a lifeguard.

So in January, during National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, I think it’s important to remember that there are things we can do to identify vulnerable women and children who are victims of trafficking.
